Sony PlayStation 3
The next gen console that Sony promotes is Playstation 3.
But the start of Playstation 3 is not easy and successful. Since the announce of the console in 2005 E3, the date of publishing Playstation 3 delayed again and again and again, pissed off many sony fans. (Sony said they going to have PS3 in store available in end of 2005, then revised to spring of 2006, then summer, till now, end of 2006... delayed for 1 year!)
From the forum (one of the largest forum in taiwan, millions of people access into it everyday) that I often visit, people are tired of Sony saying bullshit about how soon and how many playstation 3 they going to produce per month.
Players: We want Playstation 3 NOW!
It is quite ridiculous that the first set of PS3 consoles publishing in whole world is only .5 million. This is so not enough for hardcore player. distributing 100,000 consoles in whole asia region, and 400,000 in north america... For Europe, ha, they have to wait till next year march. Many problems occured due to less amount of consoles, ppl are selling pre-ordered consoles in auction sites like, EBay, Yahoo, and the price of Console has been doubled (the retail price is 599 USD, on ebay it is 1500 USD) because PS3 is so limited. And next shippment is like , 1 or 2 months later, you never know! Because Sony still having hard time reaching high percentage of successful producing rate...So if player want to play early, want to show off to their friends, you have to buy it in extreme high price. But if you don't want to be idiot and pay high price for PS3, you could go line up for it too. Just that you need super patience (line up for 2,3 days, sleep at the store) and LUCK.

Well, despite of the mess Sony has made, PS3 is still a very good console. But i'll talk about this some other time :)

well, I can only say, Sony was an ass in some ways to limit the #, I'm pretty sure they can only make so much, cuz they are losing money, but I think only 100,000 in Asia is just stupid, I'm sorry but everyone knows how hardcore asian gamers are. They say 400,000 for North America, which is true but how many actually gets to Canada, 9000-10000?? that's just wrong......... by doin that, they just hurting supporters......... and why people are willing pay high prices for the PS3, it's becasue they can, most of them are rich little u know what..... so normal people like us, wait in line for 24-48 hours for preorder and even longer on the day of release, why? sure, real hardcore gamers, such as a friend I know, got 2 (limited one per customer but he convinced his gf to go also), so he can keep one to play and such, and another to sell online to make double, triple or even more profit. From what I heard from my friend, today PS3 was released, and the online prices sky rocketed, the highest we saw was $5600, not sure US or Canadian, but no matter what, that's a lot of money...... oh well, reality of the world i suppoe, some ppl just got tons of money to spare
The price is becoming stable now... Cuz after the release date, the pages of PS3 auctions gone up from 10 pages to 580 pages... incredible... I am glad I weren't able to buy one on release day because I was intended to put up on Ebay too... but now I think most of the auctions going to fail because there are too many sellers and there going to have a price battle. Besides, soon Sony going to release more ps3 consoles, probalby in begining of December... so are the core users going to be able to digest all ps3 on ebay? thats impossible i say...
Oh and yes Sony is stupid to put only distribute 100,000 consoles in asia. I know you are targeting in western markets... but you should also consider more about people living around japan too, it is us build up ur sony empire...
And Yes too for the crazy core users... I would never understand why ppl become so crazy about buying game consoles now. I mean, I know PS3 is good, but, do you have to pay 5000 bux on it? you can buy 5000/700 = 7 consoles 1,2 months later

Oh its my mistake sorry, the original video was a horde of people crowding and pushing eachother in the morning, infornt of the first lunch store. However the link was been removed by youtube for some reasons...So I posted another huge line-ups in Japan. But ya, I've seen this news you posted in news in mandarin as well. Crazy. I also heard that american government going to design a new law just for Sony playstation 3 to prevent this kind of mess happening again. Don't know if thats true tho, personally thinking they are dealing this issue bigger than it was.
Yea, Sony said and planned to distribute 400,000 consoles to North America. But it seemed that the actual distributed amount doesnt even meet 300,000 consoles. From some articles I read in Levelup.cn, Some "professions" are estimating the actual shippping number is between 150,000-175,000... But I don't think they only shipped this much tho, should be more than that.
Personally, I think what drives people to go line up for first lunch console, is cuz of the strong impression PS1 and 2 left in them. These 2 consoles sells too good and had too many killer games, plus sony has been stating how much times the PS3 is stronger than previous console and other consoles, showsing super graphic cgs and some concept game movies, all the high and new technologies jamed into this next gen console. More importantly, buy early, play early, and the first shippment is so limited that if you have it you can show off to ur friends. These are some reasons me and my friends concluded after discussion what makes all ppl getting crazy and pay double price for one system.
And for the ebay question, I think I'll answer it in my new post...Just found a funny event occured recently on ebay ps3 auctions.
